Paul Remillard is a member of the Florida Bar, Colorado Bar, and the U.S. District Courts of the Southern and Middle Districts of Florida. His law firm, Remillard Law Firm, offers many services to lawyers and law students. He travels throughout Florida to mediate complex litigations.
Mr. Remillard has mediated over four thousand cases since 1995. He was certified by the Supreme Court of Florida in 1996. He is recognized as one of the most experienced and successful mediators in Florida with a settlement rate of over 90%.
Paul also acts as an expert witness on ethics issues, and serves as counsel for lawyers facing disciplinary proceedings while using his experience to help law students with special attention who are seeking Florida Bar admission. In selected cases, he works as a trial attorney where ethical and professional matters are before the Court.
As a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College with a major in accounting from the school of management, Mr. Remillard was a scholarship athlete and lettered for two years in football and baseball.
After graduating near the top of his class from Nova University College of Law, he worked as an Assistant State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit under the direction of The Honorable Janet Reno. As a result, he has vast jury trial experience.
Mr. Remillard began working for The Florida Bar as a trial lawyer in 1992, and was promoted to assistant Director of Lawyer Regulation after only six months. In this capacity, he supervised many facets of the lawyer regulation process.
In 1995, after the Supreme Court approved the creation of The Florida Bar’s Ethics School, Mr. Remillard designed, authored, founded and actually taught the course for almost five years. The ethics school was initially designed to give first time lawyer-offenders an excellent “in service tune-up” on conflicts, trust accounting, fees, advertising, law office management, and professionalism.
Eventually, the program’s material became so popular that now, pursuant to a Florida Supreme Court Order, all new admitted lawyers are required to take the course material within a year of admission. Mr. Remillard, during his tenure at The Florida Bar, was the lead instructor for over ninety percent of all new lawyer’s training of this material. At that time, the Supreme Court ordered the name change from “Bridge the Gap” to “Practicing with Professionalism”.
To date, Mr. Remillard has taught nearly two hundred seminars to members of the Judiciary, legislators, lawyers, legal assistants, law students, and multinational corporations.
After a nationwide search committee completed its interviews, Mr. Remillard was selected to become the first Executive Director of The Florida Bar’s Center for Professionalism. The Court created the Supreme Courts Commission on Professionalism. This Court also approved the creation and funding for the Center for Professionalism and altered CLE requirements to allow professionalism credits to be the equivalent of ethics credits for reporting purposes. The effectiveness of this “higher calling” mission has been widely recognized, especially by organizations such as the American Bar Association, which awarded the Center unprecedented “back to back” national awards as well as the Association of Chief Justices which adopted the vast majority of the Center’s accomplishments as part of its proposed, national model.
It was during this time, Mr. Remillard decided to enter in private practice and he was awarded his most prized possession: a joint proclamation from the Florida Supreme Court and the President of the Florida Bar. The proclamation recognized his “vision, energy, and enthusiasm for his creation of a national example of excellence in promoting high civil and professional conduct to thousands of lawyers, Judges, and law students who have participated in his programs.”
